Wright wrote off his Ferrari 360 Spyder when he lost the rear end on a bump, span off the road and collided with a tree. The ex-Arsenal striker and footy pundit would later describe the crash as the most exciting five seconds of his life.

2. Rowan Atkinson

The man made famous by Mr Bean uses a fair proportion of his £60 million fortune to indulge his passion for cars. In fact Rowan Atkinson is a keen and handy racing driver. But he was lucky to get away unhurt when he piled his £600,000 McLaren F1 – once the world’s fastest sports car – into the back of a hapless old biddy in her Rover Metro on the A6. Atkinson has the unfortunate history of crashing multiple exotic cars, including an Aston Martin.
