Description of Cloud Storage
Cloud storage is defined by pcmag.com simply as “an online storage service over the Internet”. Cloud storage is an advanced form of basic online storage, in that it supports an entire network of users, including the employees of the company as well as the company’s customers. Multi-user access is one of the features of all cloud storage providers, and the majority will provide continuous or scheduled backup of designated files.
You can find on Internet best cloud storage with cloud storage comparison.
Why is it called “Cloud”?
The term “cloud” when referring to today’s cloud computing first originated in the 1990′s, but the concept has been credited as early as the 1960′s, when John McCarthy vocalized his idea that computers could one day be organized in a way that would provide public utility. The name “cloud” stems from 1990′s illustrations of telephone networks, when companies began using VPNs (Virtual Private Networks) to maximize efficiency. VPNs, while usually private, function by using a public medium (such as the Internet) to unite remote offices and users.
The “cloud” is drawn as the connecting piece between all of these end points. Instead of using a dedicated or leased line, VPNs create virtual connections through the Internet from the company’s private server directly to the user. Therefore, “cloud storage” provides all users at all of the endpoints with a common host server, allowing anyone the ability to edit or view the file if they have access to the cloud.
