Steffen Korbach’s Pagani Zonda F Clubsport Roadster crumpled after he lost control on a wet road and smashed it into a barrier.
The Zonda – one of just 25 in existance – was left a mangled wreck with debris from the 7.3-litre supercar strewn over the motorway.
However, Mr Korbach – and his 21-year-old passenger – emerged with just minor bruising.
German investment banker Mr Korbach, 28, lost control of his vehicle on the A10 Autostrada in Italy.
A source said Mr Korbach, who had been driving within the speed limit through an area of roadworks, was considering getting the car repaired.
The Zonda F Clubsport Roadster he was driving is rated as one the greatest modern day supercars with Top Gear host Richard Hammond a massive fan.
At £1.4million, it’s one of the world’s most expensive new cars with only the £1.5 million Koenigsegg CCXR and £1.6 million Bugatti Veyron Super Sport costlier.
But neither the Koenigsegg nor Bugatti are believed to have ever been written off in a crash.
The Italian Zonda, with its rear-mounted V12 engine, produces 650bhp and is capable of doing 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds and has a top speed of 214mph.
